Below are a few examples of how Electra-Kool™ blowers have been used in DC motor repair shops.
IDAHO CASE STUDY: COOLING AN AC MOTOR WITH WPII HOOD
While most Electra-Kool blowers are used in DC motor repair shops, they can be used on AC motors too. A motor repair shop in Idaho was tasked with finding a solution for their customer, who was having problems with a motor tripping its RTDs when they tried to run it close to its 1.15 service factor in the summer in Nevada. The motor was a 600 HP medium voltage AC motor with a WPII hood, but the hood was not allowing enough air into the windings to keep them cool at high service factors. Our customer needed a solution quickly; every minute of downtime was very costly.
They decided to create a forced air environment by sealing the intake vents on the hood and installing an Electra-Kool™ Model 3000 Centrifugal Blower, which we shipped to them the day after they placed the order. Within a week, the Electra-Kool™ Model 3000 arrived in Idaho, was affixed to the motor’s hood, and was shipped to Nevada, forcing 3000 CFM of filtered air into every nook of the motor’s windings. Electra-Kool™ allowed our customer to get 690 horsepower out of the motor by running it at its full service factor, making their operations more efficient without having to buy a new, larger motor.
